Ode to a Visionary Man - an inspiring read.

This book may be a collection of stories by people whose lives were touched by Father Masterson. But to those of us who have not met him, this is an ode to a person who had vision and displayed leadership to make it a reality.
While it is clear that Father Masterson was a Jesuit and a believer first, the stories in this book reveal a man who faced great adversity in his quest to educate people not only in their ABCs but also in the responsibility of being community leaders. His was a vision that called for practical application. Reading the testimonials of his former students, many of them fulfilled his vision and have become important leaders in their own communities.
Father Masterson spent most of his life in the Philippines yet he crossed paths with many influential people who believed in his work. For example,President Roosevelt supported his work. With his own personal brand of humor, perseverance, vision and financial acumen, he created an institution that forged leaders throughout Asia.
The collection of stories are personal, touching and inspiring. I commend the editors and the contributors for bringing to life a person whom we should be so fortune to have touch our lives if not directly then through the telling of others.

Inspirational leader for his time.

This is a collection of memories of an inspirational leader. Masterson's vision was for everyone to have a full and abundant life. From this vision he went on to impart 'development principles' for his students to apply in their respective communities or countries.Hence the tools for social growth.His view of the negative impact of 'rugged individualism' or unrestrained capitalism,and it's negative impact of society is more relevant today then when Masterson spoke the words. He was a true leader of his time.

The book is inspirational and reminds me of a great human being who was truly a servant of God

A "must read" The book opened my eyes to God's goodness: How God works through people sent to the vineyard. Couldn't put it down. The stories by all those privileged to work closely with Masterson made it intensely personal. The people and city of Cagayan de Oro (Philippines) owe much to these Jesuits and the university and the institutions they have established. The book is inspirational and reminds me of a great human being who was truly a servant of God.
